We, the “Operations of Critical Infrastructures” group at the intersection of the Institute for Operations Research (IOR) and the Institute of Information Security and Dependability (KASTEL) at KIT, are interested in how to apply techniques from operations research and business analytics to improve the security and resilience of critical infrastructures - with a particular focus on healthcare. To support our ongoing research projects “Building Network Resilience in Healthcare Against Cyber-Attacks” and “Optimizing Resource Planning in Surgery Wards Through Data-Driven Resilience”, we are looking for a motivated student with strong analytical skills to join our international research team in this dynamic research field.
Your tasks: - Work with data: collect, organize, analyse and become a data wizard! - Conduct research on topics such as resilience, risk analysis, threat modeling, and more. - Support our workflow and processes depending on your individual preferences and skills.Desired skills: - Quantitative background (e.g., Computer Science, Economics, Data Science, Digital Economics, Industrial Engineering, Business Mathematics, Mathematics). - Experience with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R). - Independent and reliable working style. - Good communication skills in English (German is a plus, but not required). Bonus Skills (Nice to Have): - Knowledge in discrete optimization alongside optimization software (Gurobi, SCIP) . - Familiarity with database management.We offer: - Work up to 40 hours per month (6-month contract, extension possible). - Work independently, remotely and flexibly on your tasks. - Benefit from gaining new insights in business analytics and operations research topics. - Develop your business analytics, research skills, and intercultural competence by working with international project partners.Starting period of the position: The earlier, the better :)!Long-term prospects: Minimum term of 6 months; further extensions are possible and preferred.How to apply?
