Position number 1241/2025
Job vacancy to be filled from: 19.08.2025

Description

As a member of the Collaborative Research Center TrackAct (granted by DFG) you focus on 2D and 3D imaging of catalytic materials. These functional materials are complex structures with different hierarchical levels: from the sub-nm-scale with atomic clusters, over the microscale porous support material, to the coated catalyst on mm-cm scale. In this project, X-ray imaging and tomographic approaches will be combined to resolve the structure of catalysts on multiple length and complexity scales. Specifically, dynamic changes of the catalyst in the µm to cm scale are still not well understood during operation. After a comprehensive training, you will use X-ray imaging, ptychography, tomography and spectro-tomography at synchrotron radiation facilities across Europe, to track the structure of the catalysts before, during and after operation. Together with KIT partners, TU Vienna (Prof. Sheppard) and DESY (Prof. Schroer), you will perform, develop and evaluate spatially-resolved X-ray microscopy images and compare them with activity and structural data elucidated at the Center for Emission Control Karlsruhe, which is equipped with modern test and characterization facilities. You will present your results at national and international conferences, and publish in internationally-renowned journals.
